I am researching my family history. My mother, Nora Rose Penfold was born on the 28th May 1928 at Stone House, North Trade Road, Battle in Sussex.I believe this address to be The Battle Workhouse from 1835 to 1930 when the name was changed to Battle Public Assistance Institution from 1930 to 1938. I do not know what building replaced the above address. My mother’s parents(also on her birth certificate ) were Jesse and Agnes Ann (nee Western) Penfold. Her parent’s address at the time was Udiam Farm, Bodiam, Hawkhurst in Kent. Her father was a casual farm labourer. My mother had sister’s, One was called Jean. My mother may have been a twin. I think he died at birth. He may have been called Jesse or Arron. If any one can help please get in touch. Carol.

My mother Nora Rose Penfold was born on the 29th May 1928 and not the 28th May 1928 as I said in my last message. Carol.
