I am trying to trace my ancestors as far as back as I can go. Can anyone assist me in my enquiries regarding the Bodle clan? Any info would be much appreciated.

Hi Gary,
I don’t know if this helps but, Caroline, the widow of my Gt Grandfather, David Eldridge, married a Stephen William Tilden Bodle in 1899. He was born in Battle around 1865. Caroline already had children at home, so she and Stephen didn’t have any of their own.
My Grandfather was 8 when they married, so Stephen would have helped to raise him.
Incidentally, my father had a friend named Bodle when both our families lived in Crowhurst. That Mr Bodle and his wife eventually moved to Bognor Regis. Since Crowhurst is near Battle, he might well have been a relative.

Hi Derek
My name is Tony Bodle. My father, Arthur Bodle, and Mother, Daphne Bodle (nee Atkins) Lived in Crowhurst and moved to Bognor Regis in 1958 (when I was 2). I now live in North Yorkshire. Myself and my 2 sons are the sole remaining Bodles from this Crowhurst line.
Regards
Tony
Hi Tony,
My father and yours were great friends ! We lived in Forewood Rise, Crowhurst when I was a toddler and think your family did too.
We subsequently moved to Eastbourne, but our fathers’ friendship obviously continued as our families did a holiday house swap one summer. Our family spent a week at your house in Bersted whilst yours came to ours in Eastbourne. You’d have been Infants School age at the time, I’d imagine.
Any idea whether the Stephen William Tilden Bodle b c1865 who married my widowed Great Grandmother Caroline Eldridge, was a family member of yours? That would be truly remarkable!
My sister and I still live within 10 miles of each other in East Sussex and both of us have adult children.
Cheers
Dez
Hi Derek,
Indeed I vaguely remember the holiday in Eastbourne. I remember an ice cream van stopping outside the house (how convenient)! I think we must have gone to see my father’ brother (Bill) in Hastings. We only really only kept in contact with him and his sister (Vi) in Bexhill. And indeed we did live in Forewood Rise. I have only just started looking into the Bodle line but will keep you posted if anything interesting turns up.
Regards,
Tony
