Battle in East Sussex Town Guide

Pepper Family

My great great grandfather was James W Pepper born in 1842 died 1915. We live in Eastbourne, just wondered if there is any peppers still around in Battle, would be great if anyone knows more of the family history.

Thanks,

Sue Rouse

    Hello Sue,

I think that your gr gr grandfather James William Pepper was born in 1840 at Sedlescombe, and baptised there on 13 February 1842, parents James and Mary.
I don’t know whether you have tried to trace his birth registration but it comes up in the GRO Index as Tepper rather than Pepper in the September quarter of 1840, Battle district.

I’m not connected (as far as I’m aware)but saw your message and thought I’d help.

    Best wishes,

    Caroline

    Hi,

Thanks for replying. I think J W Pepper was my gr gr gr granddad (my mistake) I’ve found out a lot of info about my gr grandfather Walter Pepper and know they lived in mount street, where they were bakers the cottage still has the Pepper name above the door,

I just wondered if there were still Peppers in Battle.

    Thanks,

    Sue
