Battle in East Sussex Town Guide

Battle Abbey during 1st WW

I believe my grandfather William Kidd Hutchinson was at Battle Abbey towards the end of the First World War. He may have been there recuperating from war wounds – was it used as a hospital? Or he may have been working in the gardens as he was a horticulturist and after the war he established a nursery business in Kent. My grandmother Jessie Bain was working in the dairy at the Abbey at the time. He saw her riding past on her bicycle and it was love at first sight. They married in 1916.

Does anyone know what the Abbey was used for during the First WW or if there are any books, documents or photos from that period in its history?
