Battle in East Sussex Town Guide

Battle Workhouse

Is anyone doing research on Battle workhouse around the 1840s or 1850’s? My great grandfather was born there in 1840 and lived there for at least ten years, maybe more. I’m trying to get as much information on conditions, etc, at the time as part of my research. I will be visiting Battle for 2 days around April 13 and 14.
Thanks. Allan

I am trying to find out why my father Frank Hook, his parents and siblings were in Battle Workhouse in 1911, and how long they were there for. How can I find out please.

Hi Mary … best place to start would be east sussex records office which have docs pertaining to the Battle Workhouse. Also, The National Archives (UK) has docs … e.g. MH 12/12747-12/12765.

Hi Brian. So if I pop into the Archives at Kew, which is just 15min away from me do you think I should hopefully find info there?
